I'm Shamim, and I am a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Associate AMFT# 116422. I am currently a Doctorate Candidate in Couples and Family Therapy (CFT) at Alliant International University, where I also completed my Masters of Art in CFT. During my undergraduate studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, I received my B.A. in Psychology with a minor in CFT.
I currently practice at Newport Couple and Family Therapy NCFT, where I am supervised by Tinaz Vevaina, LMFT #36131. I am on the path of receiving extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, a highly effective modality for working with couples and individuals.
Having had over ten years of experience working in the mental health field, I have found a great passion for working with children, adults, couples, diverse populations, and immigrant refugee families.
I am also Bi-lingual and fluent in both English and Farsi. I am a member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a scholarship recipient of the Minority Fellowship Program (MFP).
My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. This can be achieved by providing a neutral safe environment and customizing an individualized treatment plan that best fits our lives' challenges and difficulties.
In my work with couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). With substantial empirical research, this model helps couples increase their communication and enhance their emotional bond by navigating and detecting cycles and patterns by accessing underlying primary emotions and attachments.
